Free spirited Maria must decide between two conflicting choices: to marry a successful older man of her father’s choosing, or run off with a young handsome Gypsy whom she has fallen in love with. If she does not comply with her father’s demands, she will be forced to remain in a convent as punishment and forbidden to ever see her Gypsy love again. Her only escape from the convent is to submit to her father’s marriage plans for her, in hope she can somehow allow fate to intervene in what seems like a battle against forces Maria alone cannot resolve. The tradition of both families, Italian on one hand and Gypsy on the other give precedence to both fathers. But the influence of American culture on their children creates a battleground for free will and unexpected allies with the power to allow the possibility for a happy ending. Will the tide of events favour Maria’s wishes? Will someone emerge to bring about a rightful conclusion?
