Kael’s heart pounded with a mix of excitement and dread. Cyber-ops Soldier. Kicking alien butt and saving the world (mostly the butt-kicking part) ? that was the dream. But Dead Man’s Hall, the most brutal academy on Earth, wasn’t making things easy.
First curveball: Jason Renud, a rich jerk with a silver spoon surgically attached to his backside, and a personal vendetta against Kael. Fantastic.
Second curveball: his squad, the Titans. A motley crew of misfits who wouldn’t win any fashion contests, but at least they weren’t stuck-up like Renud. There’s something to be said for that.
Then there’s the ever-present pressure of living up to his parents’ legacy. High-ranking military folks, the both of them. Kael didn’t want to be the one to tarnish the family name, especially not at Dead Man’s Hall. Rich kids squabbling over who gets to be Earth’s last line of defense against some unknown alien threat ? what a recipe for disaster. Buckle up, Kael thought, this is gonna be a bumpy ride.
