This fantasy short story collection was intriguing. These stories are snapshots and world building, and left me disappointed when they ended. Each covers an event in the main characters life, but the worlds they exist in are detailed and enthralling. Some are based in the real world, like Tourist Trap, others in original fantasy worlds.
Despite writing in close third perspective, the author has a knack for putting you right inside the characters' heads and making the reader feel for them. I genuinely wanted to know what happens next for the reluctant mage with his enforced new life. The arguement between a muse and her writer was intriguing and amusing - and I suspect heartfelt!
While it has some adult overtones, it should be suitable for readers from young teens upwards. For fantasy or urban paranormal readers, it definitely has something to offer and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rating:4
