We fight together. Always.

She is the preordained future leader of Blades and he, a lowly operator assigned the position of her Protector.

When Alex is attacked by a new biologic weapon, she doesn’t suspect her Protector and childhood friend of compromising her location. But when he high tails it out of town with more money in his bank account than an operative makes in a lifetime, she has more questions than answers.

Given orders to get Flyn’s source of information or else, Alex believes only the truth will save her Protector’s life. But if the truth can’t set him free, she’ll put her life on the line to be his protector.

Excerpt: She walked into the living room, and he glanced up. The soft glow of the lamp highlighted the gash on her temple, her swollen bottom lip, and her bruised cheek. Locking his jaw, he saw her through a haze of red.

If he ever found the bastards who had attacked her . . . he slackened his jaw. There were no monsters left, not if Lucas had intervened. Those demons were now embers scattered to the night air.

“Why isn’t Armor here? Why did they send you?” he asked. “That is why you’re here, isn’t it, to bring me back to headquarters?”

“To bring you back to me, Flyn.” She never ceased to amaze or disarm him with her tenderness and fierce possession. “In exchange for your source, you can stay by my side.”

Threading his fingers through his hair, he laughed. The sound was laced with bitterness. “You think a man like Armor, who collects expensive sports cars, would let another man near his most prized possession?” He stood and stalked toward her. “Give me the truth, Alex. The truth is important to you, isn’t it, sweetheart?” He was a bastard and would go to Hell for using her straight morals against her.

She tipped her chin at him. “Fine. After you give him your source, and once he and I are married, you’ll seek for him.”

She stepped forward. One more and she’d be up against him. She took the last step and he exhaled the breath he held. Setting her palms on his chest, she glanced at him beneath dark, long lashes. Flecks of gold danced in her eyes.

“We fight together, Flyn. Always. This is our chance to stay together.”

Dammit, didn’t the little troublemaker realized what she was doing to him, staring at him with eyes the color of the sun, and hair the shade of her favorite flower—white roses? He distanced himself from her and went to grab a beer from the fridge.

“You should be at headquarters, healing.” He popped the bottle’s top off on the counter’s edge and took a long drink.

“I came to get answers,” she said with heated words.

Her unwavering gaze on the hollow of his neck spoke of a different kind of passion. Was she remembering times when she’d buried her face there, inhaling in the scent of him? Or of licking off his sweat after they’d trained hard together?

A flush crept up her neck and settled in her cheeks, confirming his suspicion. He brought the bottle’s rim to his mouth and slowly drank while watching her. She swallowed, shifting her focus to his eyes. Heat burned in his belly and shot to his groin. Dammit . . . if only she wasn’t engaged to another man. He’d take her in his arms and let her draw in his scent, and lick at his skin any old time she wanted to.
