Someone is killing off the authors who write cheap but popular Penny Dreadfuls and Inspector Bird needs help. The victims are all linked to Panglossian Publishing but Mr Panglossian refuses to reveal the noms de plume of his authors.
Our two sleuths – Dr Watson and Countess Volodymyrovna – must match the anonymous authors to their real names before the killer strikes again but it seems that almost everyone in York is a penny dreadful writer.
