Jacob shifted his rifle to bear on the approaching horseman.
They had thought it would be easy to kill two cowboys who fancied themselves to be tough. That was six or eight men ago.
The previous deputies were gun slicks and card sharks who promptly bit the dust when they tangled with George Copley.
So the Sheriff brought in the Sons of Thunder to investigate and Copley sent three men to kill them. How hard could it be? Gunslingers didn’t have the faintest conception of how crooked corporations bought politicians.
But Jacob and Esau Cochrane could do more than shoot fast and straight. They had an alarming ability to discover uncomfortable information that no else even imagined could exist. And they were uncommon fast about it.
So Copley’s riders came to mow them down. They would try, and they would learn that the Sons of Thunder were not men to be trifled with.
Copley himself would have to learn.
