“Look in your heart,” they said…
Meet Jenica Aimes, a skinny high school redhead with the disposition of a sleep deprived honey badger, but she’s not one of your typical teenagers tired of being harassed. Secrets of an ancient immortal entangled in her past ooze into the open as she picks the scab of her past.
Her classmates, however, just think she’s a prick. While she doesn’t mean to be nasty, she can’t help it. The adults in her life assume being a teenager is all about liking boys, texting and worrying if that’s the biggest your boobs are going to get. But Jenica hoped to meet one adult, just one, who truly understood her.
This teen adventure book starts out like any other with a volleyball to the face, a run in with the police and a visit to the principals’ office, but things really get weird when she cries tears of blood and a man with a face like Freddy Krueger tries to blow her up at school.
After being saved by her therapist, Doc, Jenica discovers the source of her less-than-sunny disposition stems from the rage of an ancient immortal being imprisoned inside her soul! Doc drags Jenica to a remote camp in the Mexican jungle where she discovers she is not the only one with a cantankerous captive in her gut. In fact, there is a group of them who call themselves vessels. Her newfound friends try to teach Jenica to channel the power of the immortal inside her to perform superhuman feats.
“Play nice,” they said…
While her new powers prove exciting, Jenica’s greatest thrill is friendship–a new phenomenon for the formerly friendless honey badger. Doc continues to guide Jenica through the intricacies of friendship as well as her astonishing new powers. Just as life starts to settle, Jenica finds the particular immortal trapped inside her is inviting the attention of an unsavory fan club, including a monster who regrows its limbs and the Freddy-faced arson who already tried to kill her once. Although the reason these miscreants want Jenica remains a mystery, her friends vow to stay by her side and protect her.
“Make friends,” they said…
Sure her new friends can crush boulders with their bare hands, run faster than speeding cars and hear a butterfly’s wing beat, but will it be enough against her frightening new enemies? Jenica wasn’t so sure. While her savage adversaries haunted her nightmares, Jenica’s true fear was for her friends. So, when she’s asked to abandon her friends and save their lives or endanger them by standing with them, she agonizes over the choices like poison. And what’s worse, her long-time confidant and therapist, Doc, is might be hiding a devastating secret of her own.
What they didn’t say is how it all ends…
