In a world filled with myths and legends come to life, a child unlike any other is born. With eyes of azure, Hecate’s sight sees all . . . even the mysterious essential energies in the universe. But as a child afflicted with loss during her twelfth year of life, she must face the challenge of surviving in the enchanted city of Atlantis without her mother, cope with her empathy, and evade the monstrous grasp of a vile woman bent on stealing her gifts.
Hecate’s mother taught her well though, and she knows what she must do to ensure her secret is always kept hidden. And as she begins to learn that she is not the only one in the island city of Atlantis keeping to the shadows, she discovers that her gift has a strange quirk – empathy.
Now under the care of a famous and wealthy master mage, Gurian, Hecate slowly pushes her sight beyond her limitations. She longs to find her mother, yet also to learn more about this strange foster father whom saved her from a dire fate. Only, Gurian has secrets of his own – many of them. And there is an ancient one in particular he isn’t aware of.
With his emotionless demeanor, Gurian is the epitome of control. But Hecate’s presence in his life is causing an unexpected effect on his disciplined mind, which, over the course of the year that Hecate resides under his care and protection, is breaking through his well honed defenses.
However, secrets always have ways of coming to light, and Hecate is finding that her sight can break through any barrier, unlock many rooms, and see even beyond that which she thought possible.
This, though, is only the beginning of her journey, even if Hecate, with her unique sight, cannot see into the future. A prophecy spoken by a mythical druid says so, and the vanirian race is easy to believe in anything the Council of Seven says to be true.
The Prophet Child Hecate will one day restore Vanath to vanirian dominance, or so the seven profit greatly from by saying. But what they don’t know is what Hecate knows – something far from nothing. And what no vanirian can see is what lies beyond the nothingness Hecate portrays, and what ancient power runs deep in her veins.
All children grow up, and all vanirian children ascend to honor their blood lines. But what Hecate will become when she reaches the age of attunement is not foreseen by anyone, and she will forge a path into the future unlike anything ever imagined.
But that is another story, one Hecate must grow into.
