Katie is on the run – on the run from a lost relationship and on the run from her own heart. After giving up her corporate job in New York City, Katie takes a backpack and what remains of her dignity and before long she arrives in Taos, New Mexico. A chance meeting with James, a local treasure & thrift store owner, leads to a part-time job at the Kit Carson Museum and Katie begins to make friends in this small desert town.
But is everything as it seems? Matt, the museum curator is acting strangely. Charlie, the good-looking ranch hand from the local Mountain Shadow Ranch is eagerly courting Katie one moment and apparently disinterested in her the next. James appears to be the perfect man – but unfortunately, he’s in a relationship with the pouty and moody Peta. And why is Justin, the man whom Katie is trying so hard to forget, so desperate to talk to her?
Can Katie ever find happiness again? Perhaps Charlie is right – maybe she really is a turquoise girl. “I think you are a lady with a secret. Someone with sadness or sorrow in her past. A lady who thought she had it all, only for it to be snatched away.”
