Currently, over 11 million undocumented immigrants reside in the U.S. according to the Pew Research Hispanic Trends Project, many with children who are citizens. Though the number of undocumented immigrants has begun to stabilize, overall, people of a Hispanic background account for over 15% of the U.S. population. Many of these Latin-American immigrants work low-wage jobs in order to support themselves and their families, and lack of legal status makes it difficult for them to access safe, affordable loans. In the U.S. it is essential now, more than ever, to provide this underserved market with safe, affordable financial help programs.
