Martha and her brother were born in the Outlands. They have only heard stories of Invictus, the grand capital city; they have never seen it for themselves. But when their general is taken hostage, Martha and Asher have no choice but to make their way through the monumental steel gates that enclose the city, and bring him home.

Their valiant rescue attempt will teach them one thing: the darkest of Invictus City’s secrets – underground prisons, mutated monsters, psychotropic brainwashing – have been kept hidden behind the wall.

There, they will face the horrors that they never knew existed.

Martha and her brother set out from their small town to the grand city of Invictus, hoping to rescue the general who runs their town and bring him home. What they find are horrors.

There's not a lot of character work, as Martha and her brother are simply trying to survive, and survival is not easy. On the other hand, although her brother, Asher, is too young to have really developed a character yet we do see that Martha is self-reliant and generally competent with a weapon and it isn't just loyalty that drives her, it is desperation.

The odds are high, the twists are nasty, and if we have seen worse before the ending really hammers home how dark this world really is. More stories that expand this setting could be very interesting.

A short futuristic story, this will definitely appeal to dystopia readers and those who enjoy post apocalyptic fiction.

I enjoy post apocalyptic fiction and this story definitely sounds like one that I would enjoy. This topic has been done so much that I think it must be really hard for an author to try to come up with new and unique twists to these kind of stories. Can't wait to find out what's in this one.

Whispering Peak sounds a clear mystery of what would happen to the future. I am expecting it that it would a successful one. Everything is put in order and everything is at place. But I am apprehensive for it is not when you said that it is "dystopia". That means the short story it ends with a dissatisfaction among the readers for the failure of attaining something good and new environment for the future. Well, this has paved me the way to read it if I get hold of that copy of the short story, "Whispering Peak" and opposite of Whispering Hope as what the Christmas song about.

Sounds interesting enough if you like this sort of genre. Personally I like sci fi and anything to do with the end of the world will make a fun read for me.

For some reason this title sounds familiar to me. I have a feeling I've read this book before, but I'm not sure if it was this one or one with a similar sounding title. I guess I'll have to skim through the book and try to remember. If it's the one I read then it's really good and I would recommend it to anyone who is into this genre.
