If you ever find yourself channel surfing one night, you are bound to encounter a television ad or two about the latest fat-burning machine that can give you that glorious six-pack abs you’ve always dreamed of. Some devices even claim to generate enough heat that they can literally melt the fat away within weeks! Still, other machines that target flabby bellies appear to stimulate your muscles enough so that it is almost as if you were doing over 500 sit-ups while you laze around the house.
Honestly though, if these ads give you promises that seem too good to be true, then they probably are. No matter how many smiling models flaunt their abs on the screen, there is no way that they achieved that toned body by strapping on a crazy belt. In truth, it is all but impossible to lose the inches that they claim just because of a machine that focuses solely on the abs. After all, simply strengthening your abdominal muscles will not guarantee weight loss nor instant abs.
The main reason why targeted fat loss does not work is simply because around fifty percent of a person’s body fat is actually located deep inside the body. This means that even if you wear a belt that can heat up your stomach all day, the only thing that you can possibly lose from your body is the sweat that you built up under that contraption.
Additionally, the muscles themselves cannot directly burn the fat contained in the fat cells. Your body will need to slowly break down the fat mass bit by bit before it can safely enter the bloodstream. Nevertheless, there is no way of ensuring that this fat will only come from your stomach. It can come from virtually any part of your body so there really is no point in breaking your back to finish 500 crunches per day.
Instead, it is safer and more efficient to focus on keeping your body active and eating a proper diet. While it might take a while before you are able to see any visible results from this route, it is still a much better choice for both your mind and your body. While you are at it, you should read up on more fat burning myths and truths so that you will simply switch the channel or better yet choose to go for a run instead the next time those crazy ab belts pop up on the screen.
