The years have been hard on the Brine family, but the Shade Wars are finally over. Like most of the children in the village, Gyleon and his sister Starla eagerly await their father’s return and watch the soldiers trickle back, broken and empty-eyed after defeating the wicked Elrick Kingsman. Hope fades with each passing hour. Finally, a weary knock lands upon their door Gyleon’s heart leaps in his chest, only to falter at the sight of a courier bearing an official notice–and a grim expression. His father is dead, and they don’t even have a body to grieve over. The Brines try to move on, but Gyleon is disgusted by their acceptance. He will discover what happened to his dad, not matter the cost.
To have any hope of searching the lands Gyleon must become a mage and harness the powers that simmer in only a lucky few. But that’s just the start. Dark shadows are forming, and pursuing the truth will soon fall second to surviving insurmountable challenges, and an evil greater than he could ever imagine.
