As part of the club, we run an indie and small press reviews feature in the local paper.
In 2015 we started the book reviews in the Caterham and District Independent (print run of 22,000 and readership of 45,000). The initial trial was for the Feb, Mar and Apr issues, but this was extended due to popularity. When the Caterham and District Independent expanded to a new region, Godstone, the publishing arrangement ended.
The reviews then ran in the Croydon Citizen, from December 2015 until it ended in September 2016. The Citizen is the free paper for Central Croydon with a print run of 15,000 but library and student distribution extends its reach (more about the Citizen). This version of the column features four books but more detailed reviews, and once again focuses on the best books that month. However we were dropped to make space for advertisers.
We are looking for a new home for the column, but many other local papers charge column writers for space, making this difficult as the site is run on a shoe-string, even with a friendly in-Designer handling our layout.
We do incur costs for this, even though we provide the column free to the papers. If you’d like to support the column (or any thing else Bookangel does) we’re on Patreon – just click the button to the right. If we can make £30 a month, we can relaunch the column, and no, once again, we don’t make a profit…
